The Camelot Wheel is a simplified system for organizing musical keys, allowing a DJ to quickly identify keys that are compatible for harmonic transitions.

Camelot Keys are represented with a number and a letter such that:

  1. Keys using an adjacent number, without changing letter, are compatible (a neighboring musical key).
  2. Keys with an adjacent letter, without changing key, are compatible (the relative major / minor in musical key).

In practice, this means a DJ can take a key like 12B and the following keys will all be compatible:

  • 1B - moving up one number, keeping the letter
  • 11B - moving down one number, keeping the letter
  • 12A - keeping the number, changing the letter
