A DJ is someone who creates experiences by selecting, sequencing, and transitioning music for an audience.
While anyone can play songs, a DJ intentionally shapes the emotional, physical, and social atmosphere of an event. Their role is to guide the dancefloor through music, making each decision serve the overall experience rather than individual tracks.
Most people cannot list the songs from the best social they have ever been to. What they remember is how the room felt, who they danced with, and how the night made them feel. That gap, between what got played and what people carry home, is where the job actually lives.
So a DJ is also a music curator, a facilitator of the space, a storyteller, and a leader, often inside the same set. The buttons are easy, the decisions are hard. Hand two DJs the same hundred songs and they will build two completely different nights out of them. That way of thinking is where Month 1 of The Loop Academy starts, before any of the gear or the mixing.
